Only one person has had the nerve to tell skilled forestry trainee Chloe Gad that the woods are no place for a woman.
Chloe, who thought she was headed for a typical female career in the beauty industry, was volunteering when a trainee role with Fife based forestry business came up. Her six month traineeship has enabled her to gain her “tickets” in a number of skills including working on small trees and using a chainsaw.
“I’ve got used to my friends calling me a lumberjack.” Says Chloe. “ I was a bit scared of the
chainsaw at first but I soon got my small trees ticket and no one can patronise me now. No one
in my family does this kind of thing but they are really proud of what I’ve achieved. Forestry is a real feelgood job. Honestly the fresh air goes to my head sometimes.”
“It’s just so much fun being outside. It doesn’t matter what the weather is like. You soon warm
up. I’m not sure what I will do eventually but I just know it will be outdoorsy. I want to go to college and get some more qualifications perhaps in horticulture.”
