Open Doors is delivering the fantastic Employment Recruitment Incentive (Targeted Young Person) ERI TYP across Scotland.
This is being spearheaded by ENABLE Scotland who have joined the ‘Open Doors’ Consortium in partnership with 5 leading 3rd Sector organisations and funded by Skills Development Scotland.
The scheme can offer employers £1500 for every Targeted Young Person that you employ who meets the following criteria:
- Aged 16-29 years
- Has ANY Disability/Support need/Barrier to employment*
- Works a minimum of 15 hours per week
- Offered at least 13 weeks employment
*(this broadly includes all Mental and Physical Health Barriers to Employment including ‘Pan-Disability’; ie all physical disabilities (including medical conditions eg diabetes); all learning disabilities (including dyslexia plus literacy and numeracy issues); any mental health conditions from general anxiety and confidence issues to more severe issues.
NB with such a broad scope, a given barrier is defined at the discretion of all parties involved in supporting the young person, as they are the ones best equipped to make that assessment.
As you may know, all other ERIs (i.e., the YES ERI: see below) require an employer to offer 25 hours per week over 6 months.
The ERI TYP has been changed to be more accessible for employers to commit to, which is why it has been set at 15 (or more hours) per week over a period of at least 13 weeks, to help assist Targeted Young Persons get started in employment and to help the employer to sustain them in their role.
This is a fantastic incentive, beneficial to employers and young persons alike. It can also be utilised by any supported employment agency.
Ideally, the ERI is to create sustained employment for a particular individual, however we recognise that some employers cannot commit to this initially.
In these cases, the ERI can be used as a 13 week paid work placement.
There is no limit to how often an employer uses ERI, provided that it is not for the same employee, nor is there a limit to how many young persons you can take on at one time.
Accessing this funding is straightforward. It is simple and quick to complete and Enable can provide assistance, where needed.
Where a targeted young person may require additional support to the young persons getting started or during their employment, this can also be provided by the consortium.
